About Me

Hello!

My name is Will Richards, and I’m a student at Western Carolina University currently attaining my B.S in Communication with a concentration in journalism, along with a minor in International Studies. People tend to say that I am outgoing, ambitious and resourceful.

Through my experience in my major I have worked with the Western Carolina Journalist (WCJ) since January of 2016. The WCJ has given me the chance of writing a range of different articles for them and to sharpen my skills as a writer overall. From learning how the world of journalism works and striving to be a writer known as a “jack-of-trades”. Being a jack-of-trades encompasses a sense of being able to do the majority of the job by yourself; from writing, editing, photography, creating videos and more.

Not just from school I have been a leader and huge part of many different organizations. Such as Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia (since May of 2015) an organization known for their love of music, which allows me to keep my strong sense of musicality and aspiration to continue. Recently I was elected the Web Designer (April 2017) acting as the PR chair of this organization which entails managing the varying social media pages such as the fraternities Facebook and Instagram. Which allows me to learn how to promote an organization and give it the social outreach it needs over the Internet.

Along with gaining leadership skills through being a part of Boy Scouts of America, and working also with HUGS Camp of the Episcopal Diocese of NC both gave me the chance for social outreach, community service, personal growth as an individual and leader. HUGS Camp specifically impacted me significantly by changing my life, and views of how I saw and interacted with people of different disabilities by working with them for two summers as a counselor. The camp gives people of varying mental to physical disabilities the typically summer experience that anyone should experience, but also counselors were tasked with helping multiple campers with a wide range of daily norms to ensure their happiness, comfortability and sustainability.

One day I hope to use my love of writing, and photography to travel the world sharing what I experience through my eyes with my writing to the rest of the world.
